For most brands, their story is just that: a story. LMNL gives that story life. LMNL is an omnispatial design studio that brings architects, storytellers, technologists, and builders together from day one to create visceral experiences, both physical and virtual. The result is environments that are as imaginative as they are practical: every project modeled at true scale, every detail designed to perform, every space built to last. From workplaces and retail to cultural landmarks and public art, LMNL delivers work that changes how people experience the world around them.

Why Omnispatial?

In the past decade, our experience of places has undergone radical changes. With the ubiquity of the online marketplace, big box stores and shopping malls ceased to exist. The whole idea of stores became redefined as places to have an experience rather than places to buy product. Additionally, the pandemic forced people to lock down, leaving public spaces empty. Alongside these sea changes, the explosion of social media storytelling built an experience economy, where the social currency and status markers become less about status commodities and more about being there. Finally, we saw a rise in groundbreaking technologies, bringing virtual visualization and artificial intelligence to the fore. What these shifts mean, in aggregate, is that we have to think about every place as an experience. We can no longer design spaces as the collection of physical structures and fittings that shelter and accommodate bodies. Now, people expect places to be alive, immersive, reactive–living stories that one can move through like a 4D amusement park. Whether through integrated lighting, screens, photo backdrops, soundscapes or amenities, spaces from workplaces to municipalities to museums aim to attract an audience with rich layered environments.

Our founders have worked for decades in creative industries from agencies and production studios to set design, creative technology, and photography. What was clear to us was a need for a new kind of studio that integrated the disciplines of physical environment design, with the modalities of multimedia storytelling and immersive tech. There is no other way to create spaces that meet the new cultural demand for experience without bringing together disciplines that traditionally operated in silos.

It’s such a new idea, we had to coin a term for it. That’s why we came up with omnispatial design. It’s a heady word, but the concept is exactly what it sounds like: omni (all) spatial. We design for physical, digital and virtual spaces. Often, all in one project.
